CB IN GOLF INC MAGAZINE... Pick up the latest Private Clubs edition of Golf Inc. Magazine and you'll find an article called Membership in the Rough. The story features extensive CB data plus interviews with Club Benchmarking CEO, Ray Cronin and two members of the CB Community: David Gardner, GM of Ridgewood Country Club in Waco, TX and Mike Stanton, COO of San Luis Obispo Country Club in Southern California. Golf Inc's coverage of membership trends appeared in its newly launched Private Clubs Special Section
and you'll be seeing more from us in that section when the next issue is released this summer. The publication is quarterly and available in print or digital format. Read the Article
A CLOSER LOOK AT COMPENSATION... If you aren't using the Compensation & Benefits section of CB yet, you are missing out on an important benefit of your Club Benchmarking membership. The comprehensive metrics in that section provide a clear picture of club compensation including healthcare-related expenses and the time it takes to enter the data is minimal compared to the insights you'll gain. If you need assistance or have questions about your results, please don't hesitate to send us an email.
The CB approach to gathering and analyzing data represents a major advancement in the quality and credibility of compensation information available in the club industry. We are working hard to promote broad participation in that section of CMAA's annual surveys and ask that you, as a CB Member join us in that effort. Our most recent blog post on the Association's website explains the dangers of sharing comp data informally and we encourage you to share it with your fellow CMAA Chapter members who are not yet Club Benchmarking subscribers.
We've also put together a short whitepaper on Executive Compensation which dispels some of the conventional wisdom related to what drives club GM, CEO and COO salaries.
THE GOVERNANCE SPECTRUM... Over the last six months, demand for CB presentations on Club Governance has been tremendous and the feedback we're getting on those sessions tells us that the subject is a major concern for clubs across the country. Earlier this year, we had an opportunity to publish a brief overview of the concepts that form the foundation for CB governance education in the January/February issue of BoardRoom Magazine. In a quote from that article, CEO Ray Cronin shares this observation: "There are currently more than 30,000 people actively engaged in governance in the club industry and it is critical that this group approaches the task with the attitude, 'I have a lot to learn about the industry and the process of governance,' as opposed to driving a narrow, tactical view of 'I know the answer,' even before the key questions have been identified."
